Kate Knox Kate Knox works as an independent contractor to Stewardship Partners conducting
Salmon Safe farm site assessments throughout western Washington. Through both her background and education, Kate has a
solid foundation in agriculture, ecology, wetland science, and water quality research. She has strong roots
in agriculture as she grew up living and working on a beef cattle ranch in Central South Dakota. She completed a
Master's degree in Ecology at University of California-Davis in 2006, where her thesis work focused on identifying
best management practices to improve water quality in runoff from agricultural operations.
As an environmental consultant, she conducts work in restoration ecology, wetland delineation and functional analyses,
and environmental permitting. A focus of her work lies in identifying land management practices that promote productive
agricultural landscapes while preserving ecosystem functions including water quality, habitat for salmon and other
wildlife, and healthy soils. She has been working with the Salmon Safe program since Spring of 2008.
