Join Stewardship Partners, Carnation Elementary School, the Snoqualmie Tribe, and Aspect Consulting for an Earth Day celebration. This is a planting, maintenance work party and ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the installation of the Carnation Elementary School rain gardens. In 2015 Stewardship Partners received a grant from the King County Flood Control District to work with the 3rd grade class to design and install two rain gardens on the campus. Rain gardens are a beautiful landscape amenity that help address our regions single largest water quality threat: run off pollution. Like a sponge, a rain gardens allows runoff to be soaked up, and filtering out pollutants while recharging ground water instead of flooding the Snoqualmie River.
Refreshments (coffee, water & snacks), tools, gloves, lunch and an overview of the work, why it’s important and how to do it are provided. We’ll educate volunteers about the project and our efforts in the Snoqualmie Valley. Bring a full water bottle and a coffee cup or travel mug for refreshments. We suggest dressing in layers that include long pants, long sleeve shirt a jacket and sturdy footwear (work boots, mud boots, hiking boots or running shoes). Please come prepared for the weather by bringing rain gear if you have it and older clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy. We do not hold anyone to the full length of the event.
